Welcome to the early days of a better website.
I’m not quite ready for a full launch – things to write, policies to set, newsgathering widgets to sort out. you know the sort of thing.
Check out the about for a rough idea of our aims.
Comments are currently turned off I’m afraid, but I welcome feedback by mail at pdcawley@freedomisinperil.org.uk and yes, thats a real mailto: link. Proposals for feature articles especially will be gratefully received (but there’s no way I can pay you for them. Sorry.)
I’m looking for positive, local and polite suggestions for ways in which people can dispel the climate of fear is induced by and induces the erosion of our civil liberties. I’m after ways in which we can let it be known, through our calm refusal to join in the orgy of paranoia, that the malevolent voices that despise our freedoms do not speak for us.
A first suggestion
Get hold of a Freedom is in Peril… poster, display it prominently somewhere and be ready to explain why. Take photographs, tag them with ‘freedomisinperil’ and publish them somewhere.
Tweet about civil liberties related issues and use the hashtag #freedomisinperil. Someday soon I plan to have a news ticker over in the sidebar picking up the latest tweets with that tag. (If someone already has a javascript widget to fetch tweets from search.tweet.com, I’d be more than happy to hear from you).
In the interests of full disclosure
The link to the poster will take you to Barter Books in Alnwick who are producing facsimile posters for £4.60. My only association with them is as a satisified customer, I certainly receive no money from any sales. If you’d rather print your own, you can use this pdf version which should blow up to any size you like.
